Blender 3.1 Alpha Render Test on M1 Max

Blender 3.1 Alpha Render Test on M1 Max

December 10, 2021

All Scenes are rendered using cycles using GPU Compute 1080P

1.Classroom 300 Samplings

  • Result: 1min 47.32s = 107.32s

  • Boost compared to CPU: 8*60/107.32 = 4.47x

  • Roughly equivalent to CUDA 3060Ti @Blender 2.9x

  • Roughtly equivalent to Optix 2080 @Blender 2.8x and Optix 3060 @Blender 2.9x

  • According to Rob Williams@https://techgage.com/article/blender-3-0-gpu-performance/, the performance of M1 Max is half of the 3060 with Optix 3060 @Blender 3.00. If we assume there is a performance boost of 2 times in Cycles from 2.9x to 3.00, a rough equivalent will be 2060 Max-Q (206s Optix 2.93).

2.BMW27 (GPU Compute) 1225 Samplings

  • Result: 43.59s
  • Boost Compared to CPU: 210/43.59 = 4.82x
  • Roughly equivalent to CUDA 3060~3060Ti @Blender 2.9x
  • Roughtly equivalent to Optix 2060 @Blender 2.8x and Optix 3050Ti @Blender 2.9x

3.Barcelona Pavilion 1000 Samplings

  • Result: 176.51s
  • Boost Compared to CPU: 640/176.51 = 3.62x
  • Roughly equivalent to CUDA 3070~3070Ti @Blender 2.9x
  • Roughtly equivalent to Optix 2070 @Blender 2.8x and Optix 3050Ti @Blender 2.9x
